In these pictures I examine religious antiquities that inhabit a mysterious realm of spirituality and power. The baroque churches where these photographs were taken are places of worship where solemn rituals are performed to this day, amidst sculpted marble and stucco symbols of heaven and earth. The lavish ornamentation, richly veined marble columns and gilded rococo ceilings form a sumptuous realm of materialism where mortality and infinity meet. | |

| When I went to Angkor Wat, Cambodia in 2003, I was overwhelmed by the magnificent beauty of the temple architecture and the sensuous sculptural depictions of gods and goddesses, divinities, mythical beings and demons which adorned every surface. I was fascinated by the rich mix of Hindu, Buddhist and animistic beliefs as it is reflected in the Khmer art of Angkor Wat. | ||
